Rhode River Trip (Annapolis, Md area)
2023 Dates: Call us, and we’ll accommodate your schedule
Description: We will launch from Beverly Triton County Park and paddle West to the entrance of the Rhode River. We are “hand railing” along the shore of the Chesapeake Bay at this point. We will have beautiful views of the bay in all directions.
Upon reaching the entrance of the Rhode river we can see the forested and pristine shoreline. Most of that land is owned by the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. We will then continue up river and enjoy the beauty of this pristine coastline.
The remaining time will be spent having lunch on a small island in middle of the river and paddling into some tidal creeks to check out the wildlife. Heading back to the take out is just as beautiful as paddling over. This is a fairly easy paddle with many options to get out of the wind if necessary into small coves and closer to the shore.

Early settlement
Rhode River Hundred is listed in records of some of the earliest settlements in the Province of Maryland. In 1651, Robert Harwood surveyed Harwood Plantation on the Rhode River. A deed was written by Thomas Harwood of Streatley, Berks County (Berkshire), England to his son Richard Harwood for Hookers Purchase at the head of Muddy Creek.[5]
The steamboat Emma Giles served the Rhode River between 1891 and 1932, making five trips per week.[6]
